The rock shelf between the Canoe Pool and Newcastle Beach is a popular spot for fishing and exploring.
 
I was seated on the edge of the Canoe Pool one afternoon doing some sketching when a young girl dressed in a mauve satin dress wandered into view and began to explore a shallow rock pool. 
I knew straight away she was going to feature in a painting.
