Original oil on deep edge canvas 76cm x 76cm.
The Bogey Hole has many moods, always at the whim of the tides, wind and swell.
Sometimes calm and quiet, an emerald green pool that makes you want to jump right in, from the highest point possible of course. Then float on your back gazing at the sky listening to the underwater clicks, the secret language of sea creatures.
At other times you think you might get washed right up onto the rock ledge when the foamy surge churns everything into a washing machine on rinse cycle and you're second guessing the wisdom of this swim after all. Everything looked so good from higher ground!
I've painted it many times now, mostly when it's been sparkling in the sunshine but in this painting it's in one of its darker moods.
Inspired by a photo taken by a very talented photographer friend of mine, Peter Masters, who generously allowed me to use it as a reference.
New work available as part of an exhibition at the Port Stephens Artisan Collective Gallery D'albora Marinas Nelson Bay.
