  • Some know it as the Canoe Pool while others know it as the World Pool. I've also heard it referred to as the Children's Pool.

The reasons are shaped by its history and people's own experiences of it. Whatever name you know it by, it remains a unique and iconic landmark.

The perfect sheltered place to swim if the surf is rough and especially ideal for young children to paddle and build sandcastles. At low tide the surrounding rock ledges become an explorers paradise.

The moment captured in this scene shows people having their own unique experience, swimming, exploring, collecting shells, even the family dog enjoys a paddle. Just another beautiful sunny day in Newcastle.

As an artist the circular shape has always appealed to me. Along with its rusty poles, eroding paint, shifting sands and changing water levels. Not to mention those beautiful rock ledges that change with each tide.
