This painting came about after doing a similar picture on a much larger scale for a collector now living in Brisbane.
Right from the early stages of doing my plein air studies I found myself coming under the spell of this beautiful beach.
 
I had swum there of course plenty of times over the years, photographed it and walked along the shore but it felt like I had never really seen it properly or recognised its full beauty until I studied it in detail, sketched it on different days at high and low tide and then put it all down on canvas.
 
I was smitten and painted this much smaller version of that portrait, which wont be the last I'm sure, as I enjoy this renewed acquaintance with a beautiful piece of Newcastle coastline.
