  • The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of star stuff - Carl Sagan, astronomer, astrophysicist and author.

With a fascination for astronomy and a love of the ocean, I created this piece in 2022 for an exhibition to celebrate the Humpback whales annual migration along Australia's east coast.

While researching reference material I was especially touched by the relationship between the mother whale and her young, her maternal skills and dedication, making the calf her top prioriy.

I discovered many images of mother Humpbacks supporting their young calf at the surface allowing them to rest and breathe. So very beautiful.
