Sometimes a painting can take on its own identity.
Inspired by the clear green waters of the Soldiers pool (Newcastle) and a friends daughter, Elsie who happily agreed to jump into the ocean and be my mermaid muse, swimming around and around while I photographed her.
Such a graceful model, I fully intended to name the painting after her.
Only as the painting progressed what kept drawing my attention were the rainbows of light dancing on her arms and legs reminding me of henna tatoos.. only made of sunlight.
And so the very ethereal Elsie became Henna of light.
