  • Although Glenrock State Conservation Area is only minutes from the city of Newcastle, it almost feels like a world away.

A picturesque pocket of unspoiled and undeveloped coastline, where nature is preserved allowing us to enjoy the forest, creek and waterfalls. Here you can explore and view the coastline from some stunning vantage points, ride a bike along bush tracks, surf in the ocean or swim in the lagoon.

I love to spend time here and often walk in the area with my painting gear.

This picture was inspired by one of those walks. I spent a few afternoons on a rock ledge facing north and did some sketching and plein air studies overlooking the whole lagoon and coastline towards Merewether and Bar Beach. Back in the studio these studies became my reference material.
